Behind the Magic: Anna Mason x Donna Ida Christmas Decor at Langdon Court
by Donna Ida Thornton on Dec 30, 2024
As we wrap up this festive season and reflect on the magic of Christmas at Langdon Court, we couldn’t wait to dive a little deeper into the collaboration that brought a unique charm to our seasonal decor. Anna Mason, in partnership with Donna Ida, transformed the space with their signature style and thoughtful design. With the festive images now shared on Instagram, we caught up with Anna to learn more about the inspiration and creative process behind this stunning Christmas collaboration.
Q: What inspired your collaboration with Langdon Court?
A: "It all started when my friend Kate Raw and I visited Donna last summer while she was still renovating Langdon Court. As we were exploring the house, we came across a few discarded chandelier pieces that had been removed from the house. They weren’t in great condition, but they immediately sparked an idea. We thought about how we could repurpose these pieces into Christmas decor, giving them a new life and bringing some history into the house for Christmas."
Q: Tell us more about the repurposed chandelier pieces.
A: "It was such a great opportunity to get creative with these chandelier fragments. Although they weren’t in perfect condition, they had so much potential. Repurposing these crystals and droplets into decorations was a way to add a touch of elegance and history to the space. The beauty of the chandelier pieces is that they bring something old and forgotten into the present, which is always such a rewarding process."
Q: The use of offcuts from your collections in the decor is a lovely touch. Can you tell us more about that?
A: "Yes! I’ve always been passionate about sustainability, so using offcut fabrics was a natural choice. We had these beautiful leftover pieces from previous collections—fabrics that weren’t quite big enough to make anything with but perfect for small, meaningful touches. We elegantly frayed the edges, which made for the perfect coordinated decorations on the tree. It’s a lovely way to repurpose fabric that would have otherwise been discarded, and it ties everything together beautifully."
Q: And what about the statement bow in the Entrance Hall? What’s the story behind that?
A: "The bow actually has quite a history. It was originally made for my shop on Grosvenor Crescent Mews, which had incredibly high ceilings. When I moved out of the space, I didn’t have anywhere for it, so it was left unused. But when I saw the Entrance Hall at Langdon Court, I immediately knew it was the perfect place for it. It needed a space with the grandeur to do it justice. The bow is made from stiffened, hand-painted calico, and we added a little wire on the edges to ensure it holds its shape. It’s painted in my signature Mason Pink, which adds a soft yet bold statement."
Q: Speaking of Mason Pink, can you tell us more about your collaboration with Edward Bulmer Paint?
A: "It’s a really serendipitous story! When I was moving into my shop at Grosvenor Crescent Mews, I couldn’t find the right shade of paint for the space. I reached out to Edward Bulmer Paint on Instagram, and they offered to help create a custom shade for me. The result was Mason Pink, a soft, plaster-like pink that felt perfect for the space. It was such a beautiful shade that Edward Bulmer decided to include it in their collection, naming it after me.
Q: And lastly, can you tell us a bit about your collaboration with Donna Ida for the fashion collection?
A: "The Donna Ida jeans collaboration is something I’ve been really excited about! I’ve always been fascinated by the denim styles of the 70s, and with Donna’s expertise, we created a high-waisted, wide-leg jean, called the A1 Jean. I wanted to create a tailored piece that gives a small waist, but with a more casual denim feel. We also incorporated some signature Anna Mason touches, like the ‘AM’ and ‘NA’ pockets, which reflect my name’s palindrome. The fit is flattering, and the denim has a slightly faded look that’s perfect for a modern 70s vibe."
We hope this peek behind the scenes of the Anna Mason x Donna Ida collaboration has given you a deeper appreciation for the thoughtful design choices that made this Christmas at Langdon Court so special. Thank you for following along!
